Off and running

This morning we will be leaving Williams and heading east, hopefully to find some warmer temperatures. Right now it's 58 degrees and raining, not to my liking. Yesterdays trip to the Grand Canyon was a fun day spent with my four sisters and their husbands and it didn't end until about midnight. Here's some of the highlights.

It was hazy and overcast all day, not a good picture taking day, but that is the Colorado river at the bottom of the 1 mile deep canyon.

Another look from a different perspective.

Some of my sisters talking and occasionally looking at the canyon.

On the way back on the train we were robbed.

And we fininshed the day at the Cruisin' 66 Cafe.

More chatting than picture taking was done, but it was sure good to see my family. Today I start the journey towards Elephant Butte. No big hurry, but I should be there by mid-week.  On the way I'll be enjoying the good life.

Wonderful day

Just got back from the Grand Canyon and we had a wonderful day. Full report tomorrow, but we did enjoy the good life.

A walk about.

This morning I took a walk around the Williams area and here is some of what I saw.

An old steam compressor.

The original ticket windows.

A retired 2-8-0 steam locomotive.

Downtown on Route 66.

More of the downtown.

Bigger than a wristwatch.

The Grand Canyon RR station.

Getting ready for the cowboy show.

Lots of angry talk.

The sheriff shows up and somebody's going to get hurt.

They all recover for the show tomorrow.

What I learned yesterday by watching out the window. Dumping tanks 101. I watched a guy yesterday show up in a half haz-mat suit and gloves up to his elbows hook up his sewer hose. So far, so good. Then with the same gloves on he disconnected his fresh water inlet and plugged the hose into his tank fill and proceeded fill his fresh water tank. As this was proceeding he completed the dump operation and disconnected the sewer hose at the coach side and laid it down on the ground. Still using the same gloves he disconnected the water hose and inserted into the sewer hose to rinse it out. Once this was finished he disconnected the water hose and coiled it up, still using the same gloves, and stowed it in a bay. He then put the sewer hoes in a plastic container and put it in the same bay. The final step was to throw the rubber gloves in the trash. Using fresh water hoses and sewer hoses with the same gloves seems a bit counter productive to me, but I guess it works for him.

Today is wait for the family to arrive day. I got a report this morning that there was a problem with the rental car, but they still expected to arrive this afternoon. When they arrive I'll teach them how to enjoy the good life.

Wash day

That's laundry day because Mel got a wash yesterday which brought on an all afternoon rain which pretty much ruined the wash job. I got word late yesterday my sisters and brothers-in-laws are in Prescott and should arrive here sometime tomorrow. Today then becomes laundry day. They have a nice facility here, but like everything else around here, it's a tourist area and that means pricey.

One benefit of the rain yesterday was the sunset the clouds produced. Sunsets always seem more brilliant in the mountains for some reason, here's last nights.

Off to the laundry, the quicker I get it done the quicker I can get back to enjoying the good life.

Williams Arizona.

After posting yesterday most of the comments referred to me taking things easy. Following the readers good advice I headed to Kingman, stopped at Flying J to fuel up, then it was over to Walmart to grocery up and refill a prescription. Groceries were no problem, but the prescription took over 3 hours to refill. By then It was clouding up so instead of getting the wash I headed back to Blake Ranch for the night. This morning I tracked my families flight from St. Louis to Phoenix on Flight Radar a really neat program that shows what is in the air at anytime all over the world and you can zoom in on any plane and track it individually. After they arrived safely in Phoenix I said my goodbyes and headed for the wash. Once the wash was finished and Mel was spiffed up I headed towards Williams and less that halfway there I ran into the 30% chance of rain promised for today and it's still raining.

Before I left Blake Ranch I took a few pictures around the office and I would recommend this park if you're ever in the Kingman area. Some really nice folks work here.

The sushi bar or koi pond your choice.

Feeding time. They told me one on the cats was on the ledge getting a drink and one of the fish latched onto the cat's nose causing a new worlds record for a leap from a standing position. The cats water elsewhere now.

The bird feeder.

Instructions for those with no reading skills.

Some rusty stuff.

The freeloaders at the seed bar.

I got here in Williams just in time for the end of the second inning of the Cardinal game. By then the score was 7 to nothing, but Westbrooke is pitching and by the 4th inning the brewers have all ready gotten three runs back. Time to sit back, watch the game and the rain and enjoy the good life.
