4/30/2014 - 5/6/2014

Wednesday
More departures today and two of my friends hit the road for parts east. There are just a couple more to leave and we will be down to the handful that stays year round and me. This is the latest I've ever hung around here and so far the temperatures have been reasonable. Except for those few 100+ days we have been mostly been in the mid 80's.

Thursday
I start the month of May with a trip to the dentist. The cleaning went well and no new holes in my head were located. Always good news when we avoid the drill.

Friday
Dad gum weather. 100 degrees one day 70 the next. 70 is what we've got today with overcast skies. Not to my liking.

This morning I threw a curve to my feathered friends. I moved the feeder from the passenger side of Mel to the drivers side. They squawked and hollered for about ten minutes until they found the new location for the welfare cafe. Then all was calm again, well, except for the battles to establish a pecking order.

Five birds vie for a place at the table.

Saturday
Noting to report today. The Cardinal's played a noon o'clock game and managed to play the entire game without their bats. They played the bottom of the division Cubs and found that without scoring a run you will most likely lose the game.

Sunday
Road trip was the order of the day. I knew the Fiesta was getting over 30 mile per gallon in the city, so I wanted to see what it would do on a highway trip. So this morning I took off west and ended up in Zapata. I drove around my old park, Four Seasons, but didn't locate anyone at home. I did get a pretty good handle on trip mileage having driven just under 200 miles of combined city and highway driving. The end result according to the trip computer was 43.7 MPG. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with the results.

Monday
More of nothing today. The few of us in the park are so few it's hard to even get a conversation started.
Another ballgame was the days entertainment and other than that I played like I was the Maytag repairman for the day.

Tuesday
Today I made a trip the Wally World. For the first time I used the online prescription renewal and had my prescription waiting for me when I arrived at the desk. This was so much better than dropping the bottle off and being told the prescription wouldn't be ready until the next day, which is what has been happening lately. A few additional groceries and I was on my way back to Mel Manor.
Cardinals failed me again tonight, but that's life in the fast lane.

  1. I thought maybe you tested the Fiesta out by driving over to Donna's blog. ;)

  2. Cool header photo.

    43 mpg. Amazing!

I got a good chuckle out I you moving the bird feeder. I did the same with the ones in our yard, and I thought they were going to have a heart attack!

  3. Now if you can have the Fiesta have a little chat with Mel and tell him the secret of high mpg...

    1. I've parked them side by side. Do you think osmosis works?

  4. Cool picture, are you planning a Route 66 trip this summer? Great mileage, now if it only had a bed and bathroom.

    1. Agree with the bed and bathroom. I did parts of Route 66 the last six years and I now have about 90% of it completed.

  5. Sorry about your Cardinals can't win them all. The birds found there new restaurant pretty fast. I had to quit feeding now since the doves were getting a little thick around here and they are really dirty.

    Great gas mileage!

    1. I'm cutting back the food too. These birds are emptying out the feeder every day. That's being too lazy.
I'm liking the mpg a bunch.

  6. I like that little feeder - that sure gets you up close and personal with your feathered friends. We have a squirrel that sits on the deck rail and stares into the living room window if his peanuts are not served on time.

    1. It took them awhile to first locate it, but once they did it's a constant stream of activity. They get a bit fussy when supplies run low.
