2/4/2014 - 2/5/2014

Tuesday
Well the sun forgot to show up today. Didn't make it until 4:30 pm and by then the best the thermometer could do was 64 degrees. Not too conducive to doing a lot in the great outdoors. On a day like today there is little alternative for entertainment but visit Amazon dot com and see if you can find something you can't live with out. I was successful in finding a new desk chair that reclines for sleeping, now that seems like the perfect solution. It should be here Thursday thanks to Amazon Prime and once it's assembled I'll share some pictures.

Nothing else to report today.

Wednesday
Another less than stellar day, over cast with a high in the mid fifties. It did turn out to be an interesting day though as I visited The La Lomita Chapel in Mission and the original reason this town was called Mission. Here is what I saw.

A little vandalism makes the sign a bit hard to read.

The chapel.

Not sure  the significance of this cross in the middle of the yard.

Weathered and hard to read.

Inside looking from the altar to the back of the church.

The niche in the back by the doors.

Looking at the altar.

A statue in the courtyard.

After this it was back over to the Riverside Club for a tenderloin fix and a visit with Max and some friends.

Not much food was left and the conversation was great on a blah day.

  1. John, if you're bored tomorrow and looking for something to do, you can come and shovel my sidewalk. We're supposed to have snow on the ground by the time we wake up in the morning. I believe it, 'cause it's really cold and fairly windy out there today. We took the doggies out to Fern Ridge and walked them around, but it was so cold, we didn't stay long! The outside thermometer in the car said it was 36 degrees out, but with the wind, it felt much colder. We did have sun today, so that's a good thing!! Thanks for sharing...maybe I should have requested some "WARM" sun!

    1. My relatives back in Missouri are requesting the same service. They got 13" yesterday. I'm not even close to being that bored. Please note since I shared the sun we haven't seen it here. Please give some back.

  2. We went to The La Lomita Chapel the first year we were in Mission. Have no idea what the cross stands for either.

    1. I couldn't believe all the artifacts in the chapel just sitting their unattended.

  3. Pretty little church. But look at that Flag standing straight out in the wind. Looks cold. We don't have any snow for you to shovel but I'm sure I could find something for you to do around here. Just figured I could help out also.

    1. It was pretty breezy and the temperatures brought out the wimp in me. I didn't stay out in it very long.
Thanks for trying to help out, but I'll just revel in my boredom.

  4. Now that's quite the chair. With that, who needs a bed? Think of what you can do with all that new space. I vote for a football field... :c)

  5. Great pictures of the chapel - glad it hasn't been vandalized. Anxious to hear how you like the chair. That might be a good solution for Russ for our motorhome.

    1. It really amazes me being less than 100 yards from the river and the doors left open with no one around that there is anything left.
I'll let you know about the chair.
