More weekend

The weekend has started in fine fashion with all three of my teams winning including Indiana's win over Michigan.

II Logo.

Many people wonder why a person who grew up in Missouri would follow Indiana, The reason I follow Indiana Basketball is that I was a department manger for JC Penney Company and was working at the Bloomington store in 1976 when Indiana and Bob Knight put together the last undefeated team in college basketball. I was heavily involved with the program and felt confident this team was destined for greatness. So confident that I began thinking in mid-season how to celebrate the winning of the National Championship. Looking at the IU logo I decided the a subtle change of the block I to a block 1 on a t-shirt had the potential of being a huge seller.  So before the tournament even began I worked with Artex and ordered 500 dozen of the shirts with the altered logo and the words "1976 NCAA Champions" emblazoned under the logo. Now all the Hoosiers had to do was to win the National Championship so I didn't have a lifetime supply of t-shirts in my closet. They came through and the shirt sold all over the state of Indiana and I've spent the rest of my life regretting the I didn't copyright the design for a nickle a copy, but I have followed the team ever since.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday and I'm sure the coverage has already begun. I will watch the game, but it sure doesn't mean as much when you don't have a horse in the race. I will predict that Coach Harbaugh will win. Now all I have do is find someone who will take that bet. Betting on sure things is another way to enjoy the good life.

  1. You're really going out on a limb there, eh John? Sounds like a face off too me. Should be interesting to watch, anyway. Too bad about that design not being copyrighted. Just think of all the Chinese knockoffs that you wouldn't have made a nickle on...that should make you feel a lot better!

    1. You can tell I'm a real risk taker. Russ, you sure have the ability to see the bright side of the picture, plus I would have been in a higher tax bracket, dealing with the IRS and all.
