Let the sacrifice begin

This mornings project was to clean the hot water tank and install the sacrificial anode. The job was completed in a little over an hour and the sacrifice has begun. Here's what was involved.

First the water heater was turned off and water run through the system until it was cool. Then the water supply was shut off and the plug removed to drain the water tank leaving the faucets open to aid in draining.

Then the yellow wand was inserted to rinse the inside of the hot water tank thoroughly.  The red coiled band you see in the picture is half of a flea collar which seems to repel wasps and other insects that like to build nests in such nice warm and toasty places.. The other half of the flea collar goes in the refrigerator compartment and seems to work equally as well. I have be using this trick for four years and never had a nest in either compartment.

Next it was time to insert the rod, well wrapped in Teflon tape to prevent leaks. The water was turned back on and a test for leaks was done. Another job well done.

I also have some painting to do on the steps, but it's far too windy today to even think of such a job. Instead we are just going to sit back and pass the day enjoying the good life.

  1. Great of idea of the flea collars! Never thought of it before. Always looking for a better idea to keep pests out of the motorhome.

We have mud dabbing wasps flying around looking for new nooks and crannies to build nests right now in Wisconsin.

May I share this hint on my blog too???
