The end of Laws

After a weeks worth of postings I have reached the end of the pictures of Laws California. Here they are.

Many different printing presses on display.

An old Linotype machine.

Assorted printing hardware.

And a last stop at the Post office.

They were closed and when they did it was the demise of Laws..

That is the tour of Laws California. If you are ever in the area of Bishop California don't miss Laws which is just 4 miles north of town.

Today is my last day at the Blake Ranch RV Park and tomorrow I'll be heading back to the Walmart in Kingman to stock up and then coming back in this direction to fuel up and a stop at the Blue Beacon Truck Wash in order to remove some of the top soil from Mel.

More thunder and lightning last night and .44 inches of rain made for a noisy night, but the sleeping was nice and cool. A fine way to enjoy the good life.

Laws VI

Some more pictures from my visit to Laws California.

This and the depot are the two remaining buildings from the original town of Laws.

An on call sleeping room for the agent.

This piece of furniture houses a circa 1860 Murphy bed. Very rare they tell me.

The one building I saw no need to enter.

This is the Medical Building. Housing a doctor, dentist, ophthalmologist,  a druggist and a barber shop.

The doctor.

The barber.

The dentist.

The druggist.

Another view.

The fire department, junior addition.

Some rusty stuff.

The pioneer building seemed to be a collection of odds and ends that didn't fit in other buildings or were surplus. There seems to be another antique reflected in the sign.

A fancy bathtub.

Some old firearms.

Sewing machines.

Musical instruments.

More music makers.

And some I could actually make music come out of.

A bit more rusty stuff.

More rain last night and a great light and sound show put on by the heavens. We also lost power again for an hour plus, maybe the lines around here aren't waterproof.

A one o'clock ballgame will help me to enjoy the good life this afternoon.

Laws post V

Another round of pictures from Laws California.

Next stop on the tour was the miners cabin.

He really had a lot of rusty stuff. Apparently he missed the mother lode.

But he did have an ice box. I wonder how often the ice man came around.

Rather small bedroom, don't you think.

The rusty stuff pile, an assortment of a little bit of everything.

The machinery shed.

Steam to electric on display.

An assortment of pumps.

This is the stamp mill. I can imagine the noise this thing must have produced.

This setup showed the whole milling process.

This is where the ore enters the mill.

Just down the road was the mine that produced the ore.

A bucket full ready to be processed.

Water and fuel tanks.

The pump house and derrick.

A bull wheel.

More rusty stuff.

And even more, this pretty much approaches a life time supply of rusty stuff.

A switch engine from days gone by.

I think you probably are getting the sense that this is a really large collection of things from days gone by and we still have a couple of days worth of pictures yet to post.

Last night we had a thunderstorm pass through that left 3 tenths of an inch of the wet stuff. There was also thunder and lightening and we were without power for a couple of hours. That possibility exists again today. My plan for today is to do nothing, but I will do it well, just because it's my contribution to enjoying the good life.
