6/2/2014 - 6/6/2014

Monday
Today the plan was to goof off until my doctors appoint at 2:30. I'm able to report I was successful.

The scheduled tree trimming event did not materialize today, but not a big surprise in the land of tomorrow. Actually they were first scheduled last Monday. I think the new owners are going to have to learn how to pin down the local labor force.

This afternoons trip to the doctor was rewarded, without even studying I passed all tests and can proceed on my merry way for the next 6 months. Always nice to get a good report.

Tuesday
Here at J-5 we're still waiting for the tree trimmers that were scheduled to arrive a week ago. Without them I have nothing to supervise while waiting to head north. Nothing else happening and hardly anyone around including park management which is only on site from 2 to 4 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Cardinals continue to lose. I sure hope they turn it around soon.

Wednesday
I took a little ride around the area today to see if there was any activity. I didn't find anything. I will say with the winter Texans at home there sure is a lot less traffic in the area.

The Cardinals finally won a game. Winning streak is now one in a row.

Thursday
I made it to the Riverside Club with four friends for lunch. I had the usual breaded tenderloin sandwich, my favorite. Enjoyed the company for a couple of hours. Good stuff.

And the winning streak ends at one in a row. Cardinals lose.

Friday
D -Day, June 6th 1944, the longest day. On the 70th anniversary we reflect on the sacrifice of so many that allowed us out life today. Thank you.

This morning it was time to be sanitary engineer and empty the holding tanks. Without the tree trimmers that was the extent of the excitement for the day.

A trip to Wally world was the activity for the day and the larder is full. I should be good until I head north.

And it's two in a row, loses that is. We did get to see a rare triple play though.

  1. Just curious. Was your LST a D-Day veteran? I know it must have been built during WWII.

    1. No it wasn't Paul, it was commissioned in January of 1953. However, it was in the movie "The Longest Day".

If emptying your holding tanks is the excitement for the day, you better get on the road....FAST!

  5. It is such a great feeling when you pass all the tests and they say see ya in six months. Love it. Now you need to get somewhere cooler. Your heart can't take all that excitement you're dealing with down there.

  7. It definitely is a good thing to pass all the tests at the doctor's office. That's better than getting an "A" on other tests. Congrats!

    1. Be nice if they'd make them orals instead of taking all that blood. I'd give them the right answers.
