2/9/2014 - 2/11/2014

Sunday
Not much going on today. The temps are beginning to climb and the sun has returned, at least for awhile.

The Olympics are on, but I just can't get fired up about them. A few years ago I would have been glued to the set for the entire event, but the interest just isn't there any more.

Monday
A trip to the Pep Boys today to get a transmission leak fixed, but they didn't have the parts so back I go on Wednesday when the parts are supposed to arrive.

The temperature today hit 90 with lots of sun. Great day for visiting and getting out of the cave to see the world.

This year the parks WIFI has been less than stellar. So much so that I have had to switch back and forth from the park to my Verizon to get a workable signal. This month has been especially bad and I got notice the other day that I had used 90% of my 10 Gb of Verizon airtime with 11 days to go before it reset. As I was debating what to do I read yesterday that Al of The Bayfield Bunch had just switched to Millenicom as his new provider. I though maybe this was an option that I needed to explore. My first question was how good is the coverage and not finding a coverage map on their site I emailed and requested one. Much to my surprise their response was very revealing, they sent a link to the Verizon coverage map and said their footprint is the same. Once it was established that they are using the Verizon network it was a no brainer (even for me) to make the switch. I will go from 10 Gb of data a month to 20 Gb at $10.00 less a month than I'm paying now with the same coverage. The new equipment should be here Thursday or Friday. Thanks for the heads up Al.

Tuesday
After a couple of nice days here is the forecast we are looking at today.

Tuesday - Overcast with a chance of rain, then a chance of snow and a chance of rain in the afternoon. High of 45F. Breezy. Winds from the NNW at 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 40% .

Well the forecast was right and during the heat of the day it's 42 degrees and it has drizzled all day. Me and the propane man had another exchange today, my money for his propane. Looking forward to the weekend when things are scheduled to improve.

  1. I'm going to have to start paying more attention to you I missed a post or 2. You've changed it up some. Like the new header. I looked into the mellenicom but found it to be more expensive than what I pay I only have 4g and I do go over sometimes like I am sure I will this month. I'll have to take another look at that. You go over 10 holy moly.
sorry you weather took another nasty turn.

    1. I'm just posting when I have something to say. Maybe a couple of times a week. I use a lot of internet. Being full time I do everything on line.

  2. WOW...cool header photo. I remember that one from several blogs back.

I am going to investigate Millenicom also. I think we pay way to much for Verizon coverage. I did read the Bayfield Bunch also but didn't really think about it till now. Thanks.

  3. Like your new header but I kinda miss old #9!! For some reason I can't get too excited over the Olympics anymore either. Maybe it's an age thing...for me, not you, as you are still a youngster I'm sure haha!

    1. I have many moons under my belt too. The header picture was taken at Promontory Point Utah and is a depiction of the completing of the transcontinental railroad and this is the spot where the Golden Spike was driven.

  4. John, I like your new header photo too! I remember when you had that one in your blog...very nice shot. I guess young kids and "old guys" like us are more interested in trains than the average person today. Always enjoy seeing what they were able to build all those many years ago...and even today, for that matter. Boats, planes and trains...the big three of fun travel. When are you going to get your copter in the air?

    1. It amazes me some of the places they managed to lay track and railroads today fascinate me more than ever. Since I got the copter the winds have averaged 10 to 15 MPH every day or its been raining. I guess I'm just a fair weather sailor.

  5. We switched to Millenicom from Sprint and are very happy. Plus we get 20GB/month for $20 less than we paid for Sprint's 12 GB/month which rarely worked at all.
