Mandatory laundry day

It's going to happen today, the laundry is going to be done. The only problem here is in this park the laundry doesn't even open until 9 am. My habit has always been to travel on central time to avoid the hassle of switching time zones so this means I can't even get into the laundry until 11 am my time. With only three washers and two dryers it might be a bit congested on a Saturday morning.

Yesterday my mail caught up to me and a letter from my retirement benefits  administrator let me know the  that the Affordable Healthcare Act has effected my coverage and premium amount. I now have contraception and sterilization coverage as mandated by the Federal Government. Just what I needed. At least my premiums didn't go up 41% like the folks in Ohio are expecting or 35% in Florida. I guess we'll just have to see how this all washes out, but my years of auditing Medicaid programs tells me that what the government runs is usually not run well. The shining example of government mismanagement occurred right up the road from where I currently staying when the IRS took over the Mustang Ranch, a legal brothel here in Nevada, and managed to drive it into bankruptcy.  That's not an easy business to bankrupt.

The temperature is a bit cooler this morning and it looks like it will be a good day for enjoying the good life.

  1. Oh for goodness sake...9! What do the people think you're going to do before 9 in a laundry room? Hope the rest of your day stays on schedule.

  2. Nice of you to do your laundry so other campers don't fight over the sites upwind of you...

    1. A few more days and we would go clothing optional, that would sure empty the place.

  3. The government took over the Mustang Ranch?!? Good grief, they've been in business since I was in high school. The boys used to joke about going there. Figures...

    1. This was a few years ago when the IRS assumed control of the operation for delinquent taxes.

  5. My retirement supplemental plan premiums went up with the first mention of Obamacare. Then I found out from the druggist that I had no insurance. Nortel went belly up and as of June 30 decided they weren't offering the plan to retirees any more. They just neglected to tell everyone. What a hassle.

I got a letter from Medicare, recently, thanking me for taking advantage of the prevention schedule since 2006, listing all kinds of tests that I had never had. I was advised to go to the Medicare site to report fraud. I called rather than leave a complaint in writing. The woman asked me okay, so why do you think it was fraud? I told her if Medicare was thanking me, then Medicare must have paid someone for the services they were thanking me for. Silence. I asked if I would be kept abreast of the investigation and I was told they didn't have any obligation to let me know. No wonder Medicare is going broke.

    1. I've got a feeling things will get a lot worse, especially for seniors when they start deciding what care we are eligible for. If it's so good why did congress exempt themselves and their staff?

  6. This Medicare has lots of people on shaky ground.

Maybe waiting until the weekend to do the dam laundry isn't such a good idea. Hope you beat the crowd.

  7. As much as I agree that the government is a poor manager,
It's true that the feds had planned on keeping the business going until the brothel could be sold at auction (a scheme that became the butt of numerous jokes on late-night TV), but a U.S. judge refused to allow the bankruptcy trustee to assume the Ranch's business license. Instead, the IRS foreclosed on the property and auctioned it off a few months later.

Various sources persist in claiming that the IRS itself ran the brothel in the interim, though the available evidence suggests otherwise. Just two weeks after the government took possession of Mustang Ranch, county commissioners banned prostitution there, saying they were tired of the "circus" surrounding the case

  8. Glad to here you were first in line and got the laundry done. The 2 laundry rooms at the KOA are open 24 hours a day. But you need to have lots of quarters and soap because the coin changer and soap dispensers don't always work and the office closes at 5pm.

    1. I usually have change and carry my own soap. Access and motivation are the only problems I have with laundry.
