Free at last

I've escaped the clutches of California and I am in Arizona about 10 miles east of Kingman at Blake Ranch RV Park and Horse Motel. Maybe I'll have a chance to punch a cow or whatever wranglers do.

It's late in the day and probably time for a siesta but I want to get started on posting a few pictures of Laws. Laws came in to existence in March of 1883 when rails were completed from Mound House Nevada (just outside of Carson City) to Laws and service began on April 1st.

The depot is one of two original buildings remaining in Laws, the other being the agents house.

Built in 1883 this is an original.

The side with the original loading dock.

The telegraph office.

A train waiting on the track.

The waiting platform at the station.

Tomorrow I'll get the rest of the pictures sorted out and start telling the story of Laws. In the meantime it's time to relax and enjoy the good life.

  2. What a wonderful place to visit, eh? We enjoy it every time we get to Bishop. Last time we were there, we sat in the shade on a bench and listened to the birds singing in the trees and bushes near the railroad depot. We joined as lifetime members. They are looking for someone to sit on their board of directors, you interested? Looking forward to seeing more of your photos of one of our favorite places.

  5. Love the old towns your pictures bring them to life.
I am supposed to be heading for Kingman, Friday. But have to see what the Dr. thinks of this problem I am having breathing.

Just before you get into Kingman there are trains that almost seem to be on the edge of the mountain. I have seen it at night but couldn't get a picture because of the traffic on the Highway. Pretty awesome to see. At night it looks like it is coming right out of the mountain.

    1. I raced a train from the California border into Kingman. The track parallels I-40. Hope you get good news from the doctor. I'm at exit 66 and will be here for a week. Stop by and say hi if you are in the neighborhood.
