Not done

Yesterday I set out to do nothing and once again I failed to get done. That leaves no alternative but to continue the quest today. Actually I did get quite a bit of reading finished and I am learning about a lot of railroad museums that I might have missed otherwise. I guess it's in the blood, but then why wouldn't it be. I had a great uncle who was superintendent of the Chicago yards during World War II and my grandfather, on my mothers side, worked for the Nickle Plate railroad in St. Louis. He indoctrinated me at an early age when he and my grandmother took me with them on their yearly trip to Texas to see my aunts. This was at the ripe old age of 5 or 6 that I started riding the rails. Add to that that Hannibal was a railroad town, being the division point on two railroads and at one time having 106 scheduled trains a day come through. The Burlington also had a big maintenance facility with a round house and turntable.  Another part of my childhood was walking up to the railroad bridge, which was a rotating span. I would go out of the bridge and climb the stairs to the control room on top to visit with the bridge operator. When a boat approached I would get a free ride on the turning bridge. I doubt that OSHA would approve of these antics today.

Yesterday we had some actual rain in the gauge. It measured .001. With rains like that I might have to look for an umbrella.

Today will be more reading and later the Cardinals will be on ESPN. Maybe with some luck I can get finished doing nothing, but if not there is always tomorrow. Another way to enjoy the good life.

    1. Standing watches, 12 on 12 off as a Navy signalman on 6 month cruises entitled me to some time off, just getting around to using it.

  5. Hey, you were supposed to put the primer on today, since you got sandblasted yesterday. If you sit overnight again, you might have to take some sandpaper to the rough edges. You gonna use grey primer to match the other colors?

    1. Fortunately the humidity is low or rust might start setting in.
