Welcome

This morning before the sun got too high in the skies I took a walk around town and I mean clear around town. One thing that struck me is the tell tale sign that you are in a northern latitude is the 3' poles on the fire hydrants.

This is done so the fire hydrants can be located in the winter when covered by snow. You don't see much of this in south Texas, thank goodness.

Another special note. When I was wintering in Zapata, Texas many times I had the pleasure of watching the local high school Mariachi Band. And I say pleasure, because that's what it was. These kids are champions, not only in Texas, but nationally. Tonight they will be featured on PBS at 8 pm CST. If you have a chance you might want to tune them in. Here is a link to a sample of their work at Zapata High School. I think you'll agree they are quite talented.

Today will be spent repairing a few things that the road has loosened and generally relaxing, while enjoying the good life.

  1. Thanks for the link. You should volunteer to mow that grass around the hydrant, you would love the activity, and it would benefit the community. Sounds better than bingo in some ways, eh? Happy to hear the mariachi band, thanks again.

    1. Since retirement I have developed an allergy to work, doing it, not watching it.

  2. As we both know Zapata is not a scrawny nothing Texas town on the border. I am expecting to be there at least part of this winter.

  3. Hopefully all that bouncing around loosened up an adult beverage or two, which I'm sure you can put to good use.

  4. I know you will fix it just fine and have plenty time left for the good life.
