Tucumcari, NM

Arrived in Tucumcari late this afternoon. tomorrow we are heading for Seibert Colorado. This is another park I usually make a spring and fall stop at. Nothing special just some real nice folks running a family owned RV Park. Tucumcari is an old Route 66 town that is hanging on for dear life. Here are some pictures taken of the town a couple of years ago.

Tomorrows journey will be about 350 miles and will put me at around 650 miles to go to Hannibal. I might stay in Seibert a couple of days, just to enjoy the good life.

    1. In it's day Tucumcari was a major stopping point on Route 66. Today not so important.

  2. It's rather sad to see towns which were once so vibrant become shadows of those more famous yesterdays. Glad they are at least hanging on. Sure enjoyed your photos.

    1. It is sad and it's part of the story of Route 66. The Interstates let people blow right by towns like Tucumcari.

  3. So happy you and Mel are on the road again. Be safe.
I was on Route 66 in Williams, AZ it has a little more life in still. I'm sure everyone hoped the movie car's would have livened things up but I guess not to much.

    1. Williams had the advantage of being the gateway to the Grand Canyon which sort of keeps it chugging along.

  4. We sure enjoyed the sections of Rte 66 when we drove through that way last year. We are sure to hit some of those spots again when we head out that way. Interesting how those dusty little towns in the desert make their living and scrape out an existence.

    1. I have been able to cover a lot of the mother road and find it's like stepping back to a different time. Travel was so different then.

  5. When I was younger we would go to CA from KC in the 50's and went across route 66 and thru all the small town's. That was the good old days.

    1. It's amazing how much of the attractions are still left from the 30's and 40's
