Seneca Kansas

Another 5 hours of fighting the wind is complete and I am parked for the night in Seneca Kansas. I have researched the area and able to report that Seneca is famous for absolutely nothing. Seneca grew up on the Oregon and California Trails wagon route, but only 2,000 people found a reason to settle here. It is windy here, but Kansas is windy, so that's no surprise. Today the journey from Russell to Seneca was a little over 200 miles and I was accompanied the entire way by a 30+ mile per hour wind from the south. Last night I fought the wind in Russel to have a bit of a look around. Russell is the Kansas oil capitol. The oil patch museum was located across the road and they had a fair amount of rusty stuff on display. Here are some scenes from Russell.

The oil patch museum.

A derrick at the edge of town.

The town sign became part of the derrick.

How many parks have you been in that have their own Reindeer?

This park had a couple.

I'm sure they were hoping for snow instead of the 98 degree heat we had yesterday.

The park had it's own chapel, also.

The wind was attempting to blow these trees into Nebraska.

Today's adventure is over except for a ballgame later today. Now it's time to just sit back and enjoy the good life.

  1. I love a blog post that has my name in it 4 times! Glad you're off the road safe and sound. Sure don't envy you driving in all that wind. Stay put for awhile and enjoy your good life.

    1. Glad to accommodate you Russ. Hard to tell the story without you name being involved. I would normally sit the wind out, but I have to be in Hannibal on Friday to defend myself at the school reunion.

  2. Yesterdays comment I left was very true and had I been retired back then would not have happen. Take it easy like Russ said Be Safe and Enjoy the Good Life.

    It's about time.

    1. One more day and 250 miles and I'll be ready to sit for a few days. Visiting and catching up with friends will be a better use of my days.

  5. How come there is always wind when you hit the road? Is it blowing from DC, cause that would explain it?

    1. Actually the wind died considerably when I hit Missouri. Apparently there is a lot of hot air in Kansas.

  6. When traveling in the Plains, one thing a guy is assured of is Wind! I see it did not let you down!
Nice photos of the museum. If my memory is correct, Russell is the home of ex-Senator Bob Dole?

    1. Russell was the home of Bob Dole and Arlen Specter in the 1990's when they both ran for president. This might explain some of the hot air coming from Kansas.
