Amana day 2

This morning I went to the office and paid rent for a week and this afternoon I will be heading into Amana to check things out. I have already learned some things about Amana that a lot of people don't know. First of all there are no Amish in Amana, Amana was settled by a German group known as The Church of True Inspiration that came to America in 1840 from Germany. They originally settled in upstate New York, but when the outside world began encroaching on them they relocated here in central Iowa. They lived a communal life on what eventually became a community of 26,000 acres and spread to 7 towns. The communal lifestyle continued until 1932 when the community turned to a profit sharing corporation because of economic conditions.

Last night we enjoyed a beautiful sunset with red skies at night it was a sailors delight.

Today's exploring of Amana will just be another way to enjoy the good life.
