After the museum

After we left the museum on Monday we spent a bit of time looking around the grounds at the wonderful flower displays they had arranged just for us. Here are some of the varieties I saw.
As usual it will be up to the reader to assign names to them if one desires.
They did come in several varieties.
And several were grouped in each bed.
Some even had spikes.
This one I had never seen before and it was named Mexican Hat. I suppose it did look somewhat like a sombrero.

After we left the museum ground we headed back to Dolores and visited a small museum there dedicated to the history of the Galloping Goose. The Goose was created to save the railroad from bankruptcy during the depression when it became too expensive to maintain right-of-way and full sized trains.
There were 7 of the Galloping Geese built and the ones that are left are at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden Colorado, Knotts Berry Farm in southern California and here in Dolores. I have seen them all.
This one is scheduled to run this weekend in Durango.
Passenger accommodations were 'one class fits all'.

There was also a monument in town recognizing the first white mans exploration of this area back in 1776.

Last night we had a steady rain that deposited a quarter of an inch of rain on Mel's roof and made for good sleeping as the temperature dropped into the 50's. We have already finished the laundry and are now completing preparations for heading to Farmington tomorrow. Spending the weekend with Sal and Shelly and Steve and Julie is just another way to enjoy the good life.
