Bump in the night

Last night after I'd eased myself into bed and at about the point where visions of sugar plums were entering my head the wind came up and then there was a thump and scratching noise above me. Since I'm parked under some trees I figured a small branch had fallen and was blowing around on the roof. First i looked out the bedroom slide window to see if I could see anything hanging over the edge and nothing was observed, but the noise persisted. Then it was to Mel's back window to see what could be seen. I raised the blind and to each of our surprise I was face to face with Mr. Raccoon or Mr. Possum, I'm not sure which, who was half way up Mel's ladder. I'm not sure whether he was on the way up or down, but when I tapped on the window he was definitely on the way down, like a rocket. I'm still not sure if he fell out of the tree onto the roof or if he was on the way to the roof to investigate the noise I heard. I do know at the speed he departed he is probably in the middle of Idaho by now wondering what the heck that was that was looking at him.

Today, of course, is Independence day. You remember, the day we won our freedom from oppressive taxes and over regulation from the British government or at least the day we exchanged it for our own form of high taxes and over regulation. Happy 4th everyone, we are going to get busy and see what we can do today to enjoy the good life.
