Mel's in trouble. He has thrown a shoe and the search is on to find tire service. I called Progressive Insurance this morning and got them on the job. I even provided them with the names of a couple of local tire shops to help with the effort, knowing that this is a remote area. I knew I might be in trouble when I told the lady it was the right front steering axle tire and she asked if it was an inside or outside dual that was flat. 5 minutes later I got an automated call saying service was coming from Laredo (50 miles away) and would be here in two hours and all they would do was install my spare. It was still up to me to get the flat tire fixed. I resigned myself to that when I got a second call saying they had made a mistake and they couldn't find anyone and it was up to me to find my own service and submit the bills to them. I then went to the office and JoAnn called someone in town who would come out this afternoon to take care of the problem and get Mel back on his feet. I think I will be changing road service providers in the near future.
Mel's airless tire.
Yesterday afternoon Barney, alias The Old Fat Man arrived at Four Seasons. He and I have been e-mailing back and forth for a couple of years and it was good to finally meet up with him. I gave him the nickle tour of Zapata and then we stopped by Angels for supper and a nice visit.
The rest of the day will probably be spent waiting for the tire man, but around here it could be tomorrow before he makes it. In any event letting someone else change the tire is my idea of enjoying the good life.
