As I got near the office I noticed a lot of activity and found the maintenance crew was busy repairing the flag pole, During the summer the pole acquired a 30 degree list in one of the wind storms and cracked a weld on the lower third of the pole. Today it was all hands on deck to get the pole back in the horizontal attitude. When I first came on the scene I thought they were doing a reenactment of the flag raising at Iwo Jima.
But as I got closer the scene changed to my perspective and I considered the possibility of a hanging was in progress. Both assumptions were wrong and it was just the crew doing some welding repairs.
Two workers and two supervisors and it's not even a government job.
Yesterday the violence got a little closer to home. New Guerrero is the closest border crossing to and only 50 miles from Zapata and a place where many of the residents used to go for dental work. Well, yesterday there was a shootout in town and 11 cartel members were killed. I don't think many folks will be making the trip to Guerrero this year and if they do they need to be evaluated for mental health. Here is an article on the current Mexican violence.
Today will be spent talking to some of the new arrivals (home owners, not RVers, because the RVers have been slow in arriving) and enjoying the good life.
