Last month when I was in Grand Junction I had the opportunity to visit with my cousin David who I had not seen in several years. David grew up in Texas and I grew up in Missouri so it was only an every couple of year thing that we saw each other as kids. So it was nice we got to visit while I was in Grand Junction. Well yesterday morning about 11:30 the phone rang and it was cousin David. He was in Blythe and headed for Lake Havasu City and wondered if I wanted to join him for lunch. What a nice surprise. He arrived about an hour later and we had lunch at the Mudshark Brewing Company and were able to spend a few hours together before he resumed his trip to the north.
David was diagnosed with ALS more than five years ago, but he is still doing well enough that he is able to travel by himself. This is his fancy van which is equipped with an electric wheel chair ramp and oxygen. We took the five cent tour of the city and went down to the bridge for a photo op so he could prove to everyone he was there.
We also made a quick stop at London Bridge Village and then it was back to Mel so he could continue his trip home.
I made a decision this morning that we would be staying here until Tuesday of next week. With the holiday coming up on Monday I choose to stay put rather than fight the holiday traffic. So Tuesday it will be back on the road heading east. Sometimes just sitting helps one to enjoy the good life.
