9/13/20174 - 9/21/2014

The week has been very limited as for as activity goes. This is mainly due to the monsoon season which we appear to be going through. Since arriving here on September 6th 9.75 inches of rain have passed through my rain gauge and it still keeps coming. Of course this interrupts my satellite signal so even watching the ball games becomes difficult. Outdoor activity is restricted by the 90+ temperatures and the 90+ percent humidity.

The big entertainment in lieu of TV has been on the scanner. With the increased Texas DPS and National Guard presence in the area the scanner has been a constant stream of chatter. The watch towers along the border are all manned 24/7 and are constantly reporting illegals crossing from Mexico. Then the ATV patrols go out and pick chase them down. It really is border wars.

The baseball pennant race winds down as the football season gears up. The Cardinals are already assured of going to post season and now the challenge is for them to win the division.  Their magic number is 5, but they are making it a nail biter.

I heard from a couple of friends this week and they are beginning their southerly trek. I should have some company in the next couple of weeks.

That's a summary of life in the valley for the last week. Maybe things will pick up soon.

  1. Once you and your old friends start watching the playoffs together you'll have a lot to talk about Enjoying the Good Life.

    1. It might be like talking to the enemy because they don't always share my view on teams.

  2. Congratulations on the October play. We, Indians, are still in the hunt. We complete a 10-inning game and then play another tonight against KC. Means a huge difference for us being out of wildcard by 3 or 5.

  3. No comment on the IU - Mizzou football game? lol Mizzou was looking past game toward their South Carolina game, plus their best DE was out with a pulled hamstring. That gave IU a CHANCE to win. I was glad to finally see IU pull through....being an IU football fan is worse than being a CUBS or Reds fan. I cannot believe the 9" of rain you've had ... its been a perfect summer in southern Indiana.

    1. I agree that Mizzou might have been looking forward a bit, but IU played a good game. Cubs are in the middle of a two hundred year rebuilding program.

    2. I think I heard this summer the Cubs have manage to acquire 8 of the top 50? minor leaguers. Maybe a 100 ... but it was impressive either way. Of course you and I have seen a lot of players that can hit that minor league pitching but can't hit the major league curve ball. The Cardinals 11 of the last 14 years in the playoff ... impressive.

  5. I think California needs to borrow you. Rain seems to be attracted to you and they sure could use some! ;c)

    1. I've often thought since I retired that a second career as a rainmaker might work because it does seem to follow me.

  6. So now it's your turn to get the rest of the monsoon. I hear Northeastern, AZ is still getting hammered everyday. Glad I didn't go there. Of course we have been in a bad drought for to long so all the rain was welcome. I'm sure TX. needed it too.
