Cortez to Bluff

I left Cortez on Monday with the first stop being the local Walmart to restock. Then I doubled back to Mesa Verde to check out the new Visitor Center that had opened 10 days before. Here's what it looks like.

View from the La Mesa RV Park.

Close up of the art work in front of the center.

Another view.

Dioramas inside the center.

After visiting the Visitor Center I drove through the Four Corners area before heading north on Highway 191 to Bluff. I did pass Chimney Rock on the road, it wasn't going very fast.

I saw no reason to stop at the Four Corners Monument not wanting to pay the Navajo's for the privilege of having my picture taken at the marker that has been determined to be at the wrong spot. Arriving at Bluff Utah late in the afternoon I found this little town of 320 people has a lot of history associated with it. I'll tell you more about that in the next couple of days. Here's a couple of pictures from my site in the Cadillac RV Park that my explain why the town is called Bluff.

Today I'll be absorbing more history and watching the clouds float by as I enjoy the good life.

    1. I actually did four corners back in my truck driving days before the Navajo figured out there was money there.

    1. Surely you jest, if the Cardinals are playing I'm watching, you know that.

  3. I watched the new VC at Mesa Verde being built and wished they would have finished it last fall. I didn't think it was worthwhile to stop at the 4 corners site, either.

  4. " marker that has been determined to be at the wrong spot"

How can the marker be in the wrong spot when it is marking where four states adjoin each other. Yes, they have determined that the marker was placed at a spot other than the place 'intended' but it is still at the 4 Corners and will remain there.
Agreed, not worth the money to see it!

  5. Looks like you're in a beautiful area.

This is the second post lately where you've used the word "diorama." I haven't heard that word since grammar school. Really brought back memories of the pretty awful little shoebox scenes we used to make. Paste all over, everything off center and leaning. Sure was fun, though. :)
