Bluff, Utah

Bluff Utah is where I ended up last night and I will be here for about a week exploring the area and getting caught up on my blogs. More about the area in the next few days but first let me wrap up the train ride pictures.

A mountain dude ranch.

Another view.

The James Garfield memorial, erected after he was assassinated in 1881. Located directly in the middle of nowhere.

Yes, that's the end.

Today I am going to delve into the history of this area and later watch the Cardinal game while enjoying the good life.

  1. A monument in the middle of nowhere. Wonder what that says about his presidency?

  3. Why in the world would someone put that memorial there? Were you able to see any writing on it?

    1. We rushed by it wide open at 10 miles an hour.Just barely had time to shoot the picture.

    2. The Garfield Memorial is were is because the railroad workers built it versus it being built where some other politician wanted it. Garfield was only in office for 200 days before being assassinated and that it what he is most known for. However, he is far better known than his Vice President that assumed the office. There are no monument to Chester A Arthur out in the middle of nowhere or anywhere else for that matter.

    3. Actually, the railroad workers held an impromptu service at this point on the day he died and a year later erected the memorial on this spot.

  4. Looks like a great place to explore. Will be anxious for reports. Still looking for places to see after we leave everyone in August.

  5. Now don't go exploring Bluff in the buff. They might tar and feather you and run you out of town on a rail. Wouldn't be nearly as much fun as your last rail ride.LOL

    1. I'm sure that's not on the list of approved things to do in this Mormon settlement.

  6. Great pictures but that open air car doesn't look very comfortable. Don't take anything Russ says seriously, he's only bluffing (you knew it was coming, didn't you?)
