Spectacular

Spectacular sums up the day, but long tells the whole story. We left at 10:00 am and arrived at Antonito at 4:40 pm. That's a 6 hour and 40 minute train ride and the it was another hour and 10 minutes on a bus through the mountains back to Chama. The day was perfect, the scenery was fantastic and I only took 137 pictures. I will sort them out in the next few days  and post some of them. In the meantime here is one to tease you.

Our carriage awaits.

As we cross a trestle the drop to the river was only 640 feet.

More tomorrow, but rest assured today I enjoyed the good life.

  1. I generally don't like trains, but that trip might change my mind.

  5. Sounds like you really had a great day and were able to enjoy that train ride to the max. Seems that lots of train rides include a bus ride somewhere, either at the end or somewhere else. Guess that's just the nature of trains, they travel on tracks, and those tracks don't go everywhere we'd like to go.
Looking forward to more great photos, John. Thanks for sharing.

    1. The track only runs between the two towns. They run two trains a day, one from Chama and on from Antonito. They meet at Osier. You can ride the whole line in either direction or you can ride halfway to Osier and switch trains for the return trip. I opted to ride the whole line. It was a great ride.
