Home

I arrived back in Mission at about 2 this afternoon. Since Monday morning I have traveled 2,038 miles, that probably even exceed Paul when he's in the PDD mode. It was a fun adventure and some valuable lessons were learned.

1st - At my age it is necessary to have ready access to porcelain facilities that aren't 200 yards away, especially in the middle of the night.

2nd - Cars aren't designed to keep you warm when parked and the temperature drops to 38 degrees.

3rd - Diets cannot be maintained by eating in restaurants. You will receive a complimentary 1,000 calories as they hand  you the menu. Double that for truck stop food.

4th - Looking out the windshield after you stop for the day can only entertain you for a short period of time. Setting up satellite is not really an option in a truckstop parking lot or a rest area.

5th - Truckstop showers are not as free as they used to be. Try $12.00 if you haven't bought 100 gallons of fuel and they are only for professional drivers, others need not apply.

In other words, 30 years have passed since my trucking days and the lifestyle hasn't changed as much as I have.

Now I believe a nap is in order to get on with enjoying the good life.

  2. Number 1 is a critical event.
Number 3 is something I had forgotten about.
Number 4 would drive me nuttier.
This adventure has been a great success. Now we can relax with our much better accommodations we travel with. I think the Castle will soon get some more customizing. Thank you for taking the adventure and reporting the situations. Now take a few minutes to get Mel put back together. Will you be considering pulling a toad now?

    1. I have spent the entire afternoon transferring from PaT to Mel. No wonder there was no room left in PaT for me.

  3. Sorry you had to experience my mode of travel. Glad it's over and you're home where you belong. I'm sure Mel missed you as much as you missed him, especially for those midnight calls of nature! ;c)

    1. Yeah, I sure prefer a 5 foot trip in the middle of the night. The positive was that I was getting my 5,000 steps in, the negative was that it was in the middle of the night.

    1. I was an owner/operator for 1 years and was able to get a free show by claiming retired truck drive status. The manager took pity on me.

  10. WOW! That's a lot of mileage. I agree with restaurant food. I didn't realize they added that extra 1000 calories to everything they served but I certainly believe it!!

  12. You gave it a try, you shared it with us. But that is a lot of driving in a short period of time! Sleep well in Mel & rest up for your next adventures.

    1. 30 years ago it might have been doable, today not so much.
