Mixed day

Yesterdays trip to Zapata ended up being a mixed day emotionally. When I reached the outskirts of town I dialed up my friend Roger to meet me for lunch as per the plan. His wife Donna answered the phone to let me know they had not returned from Padre Island as Roger had taken sick and had been admitted to the hospital in Brownsville. This put a damper on the day for sure. I did go over to Four Seasons park and had the opportunity to see a lot of old friends and share a lot of nice warm hugs.  Then I did go to the Gomer and Patsy Show. They really do a terrific job of entertaining a crowd.

Gary and Patsy sing a few numbers.

Then Gomer showed up and really entertained.

We also saw Elvis, but he wouldn't hold still long enough to get a good picture. Several other characters visited including Barney Fife from Mayberry and Mr. Haney from Petticoat Junction. They sure put on a good show.

Then it was time to make the 100 mile drive back to the Valley and arrived just after dark. Today there are now plans as I will be monitoring my friends recovery and making myself available for a trip to Brownsville if needed.

Driving a 200 mile round trip to be entertained is another way to enjoy the good life.

  1. Hope you have good news from Brownsville today. You're going to drive yourself to drink if you keep on driving yourself like this, John.

  6. You're going to entertain yourself to exhaustion with this pace. It almost seems like you have a, (to quote VP Biden) the three letter word: "J-O-B-S". ;c)
