Check up

Today started at a slow place as I headed to the doctors office for a regular check up. All went well, but I did leave a blood sample for them to mull over. On the way to the doctor I detected a foreign noise coming from the right rear of PaT when I applied the brakes. I had already planned to have the brakes and shocks checked at Pep Boys and as I was in the neighborhood I eased on over there and they began the diagnosis. Turned out that the car needed both brakes and shocks, not a real surprise on a seven year old car and what would be considered normal wear and tear and not a warranty item. Bottom line is we now are driving on new shocks and brakes with a renewed sense of confidence and security. When I bought a 7 year old car I anticipated some expense which I'm more than willing to pay to bring the vehicle back to peak condition.

While waiting for the car I got a call from friends Roger and Donna who were sitting in front of Mel wondering where I was. They had come down from Zapata for the day for a visit. By the time I returned home a good part of the day had passed, but we were still able to visit for a couple of hours. My plan for the weekend is to go to Zapata on Saturday for the monthly flea market and that will give us time to visit.

That sums up the activities for today, but we still have IU basketball tonight and that will complete todays enjoyment of the good life.

  1. We have never been to Zapata. I will have to investigate that area this year.

You are one of the few people I know that actually are willing to spend money on their car. Great idea to keep it running up to par.

    1. I've always figured it was easier to maintain a car rather than replace it.

  3. My husband is a stickler about his car care. Our 2003 Buick is now the proud owner of new rear brakes and a serpintine (sp) belt and the usual oil change, to the tune of $500 and some change. and the outside always looks like it just left the show room floor..... and that's not easy living in Oreogn :)

  4. I'm with ya' on the maintenance. One thing the Coast Guard beat into my head.

Fluid changes are cheap insurance for long vehicular life. Brakes, shocks, tires and such are normal wear and tear items. Modern vehicles should last 150K + with a little TLC.

    1. Navy had the same effect, mostly at the wrong end of a chipping hammer.

  5. It's good to check things out when you feel the need. Now you have a much better and safer ride.

  7. A visit to the doctor...great preventive maintenance for oneself!

After I grew bored out of my mind at Sul Ross State in Alpine I transferred to Pan American University in Edinburg, Tx. Every time you mention little towns you visit such as Zapata it makes me long for a trip to the Valley :(
