New Car Day 1

Yesterday my salesman, Javi, stopped by J-5 and picked me up and we headed to his dealership to complete the deal on my, new to me, 2005 PT Cruiser. At first glance I was pleased with the vehicle appearance although it was running just a bit rough. Javi explained that they had just washed the engine and it should smooth out shortly, which it did. We went on and completed the paperwork and I began to roll back to Mission. At 4.5 miles down the road the check engine light came on and after a quick check of the manual that said several things could cause this light to come on I turned and headed back to Motor City.

This will be my new PT Cruiser

When I arrived back on the scene Javi immediately jumped into action and ran the car back to the shop and hooked up the OBDI and determined what the problem was. He got the part and off to the shop we went. The part was installed and the code cleared and we were on our way back to Motor city to drop Javi off. Problem solved....or so we thought. On the way back about three blocks from the shop the car threw the same code, so back to see the mechanic we headed. Next problem, the mechanic had already left for the day. We decide to leave the Cruiser at Motor City for the night and Javi would take it back to the mechanic in the morning. Javi actually lives here in Mission, so he brought me home and he will let me know when things are running like they should. One of the reasons I selected this dealer is that they offer a 3 month, 3,000 mile warranty on everything they sell and everyone involved seemed generally concerned about making things right. Having been in the computer business where Murphy's law seemed to be in full force full time, I have learned 'any mechanical thing can break at any time'. The measure of a business is what they do to resolve the problem. So far, so good.

Today also became laundry day, this will avoid clothing optional day tomorrow and this afternoon will be Cardinal playoff baseball so we are still moving forward and enjoying the good life.

  1. Laundry day, huh? I was really looking forward to a new picture of you sitting in your new car. Guess I'll just have to wait, now. Nice looking choice. Think you'll like it.

    1. I think I will too, Russ. Just having any wheels will be a treat.

  2. The dealership sounds like a good one. They want to please their customer, which is sometimes difficult to find. Hope they get that baby fix and you are on your way!

    1. Having been in the service business (computers) I look more at the character of the business than the products they sell. I am confident they can fix the product.

  3. Might as well get the bugs worked out under warranty, ours usually appear the day after the warranty has expired. Enjoy your new ride!

  4. Sorry to hear what happened. But one good thing about what happened is that you had a good car dealer. They didn’t keep you hanging and tended to your problems immediately. The warranty is also a pretty good deal. Now that’s clearly what you can call good service! I just hope the problem would get fixed soon, so you’d finally get to drive your new car on the road. Anyway, congratulations on the new Cruiser!

  5. Good thing you caught the problem right away and bought from a dealer who stands behind his product. I'd not want to see you stranded somewhere which would cut into your "Good Life" time. ;c)

    1. I'm sure if I got stranded one of my fellow bloggers would rescue me and get me back on the road to enjoying the good life.

  6. Aw shucks...was hoping you could do a little running around in your new wheels. At least the dealer seems to be doing their best to solve the problem, and you didn't need to throw a Fit!!

    1. The troubles you have had with the Fit did cross my mind, but I just went into Cruise Control and went with the flow.

  7. Oh it will be so nice to have a car to explore the area in. I want a PTCruiser too. I've been looking at them for a few years now, but am not in the position to buy anything right now. I hope once you get it back under your bottom, that all will run smooth! Maybe I should have worded that differently, that sounds weird....

  8. I'm thinking since he lives there too, you will get the car fixed well. Good luck. sure is pretty.

  9. Yes, Timmy was right. There are still a lot of positive things to take from this scenario. Having the Cruiser, a good car, and having a good car dealer. That last part alone is a very important aspect in any vehicle purchase. After all, the experience of buying a car is part and parcel of the whole car ownership experience. How are things doing now?
