A hard lesson

This morning it was time for a Wal-mart run, this was based on the on-hand count of Dr. Pepper which had reached zero, totally unacceptable. After doing the shopping and storing the groceries I opened the Dr. Pepper 24 pack and loaded the refrigerator with the first 6 cans and set the other 18 cans and its box on the stove. The one thing I didn't do is set the box facing the wall and off I went for the return trip to Cedar Lake RV Park. I hadn't even left Wal-Marts parking lot when I heard a loud bang behind me. Having no place to pull over I drove the three miles back to the park before assessing the source of the noise. Much to my consternation one of the cans had rolled off the stove and in a one in a million shot landed square on it's bottom at such a force that it turned that one can into a miniature Mount Vesuvius, shooting brown liquid in a ten foot radius and managing to even put spots on the ceiling. Needless to say the next two hours have been spent in damage control, but finding the positive side we now have things cleaned that were probably past due any way.

The rest of the day will be devoted trying to locate additional wayward drops of Dr. Pepper and adding 'stow Dr. Pepper' to the pre-travel checklist.  All this will better help me to enjoy the good life.

  2. Who would have thought such a small can of soda could make such a mess. Glad it didn't ruin the rest of your day.

    1. I think the moon and the stars were aligned just right for this to happen.

  3. The thing I always forget to do is take my cup of tea or coffee out of the microwave before I drive off. I end up with the brown stuff drinking all over the place.

  6. My goodness... all I could do was chuckle at that. And remember a time when a whole gallon of milk and a whole container of spaghetti sloshed across my Winnebago's floor while I was on a four lane highway. Oh well.... the carpeting needed to be ripped out any way.

    1. Pretty helpless when you are viewing a situation that needs to be rectified, but the entire crew (me) was busy operating the vehicle while Vesuvius was spewing and occasionally reaching the back of my neck. It was probably funnier in person.

  7. I just had a Dr. Pepper explode in the freezer here at home a couple of weeks ago. I have NO IDEA who would be dumb enough to put that Dr. Pepper in the freezer in the first place when a few ice cubes would have made it plenty cold. Too bad you didn't have a video rolling to record the Vesuvius Adventure!!

    1. At least you can leave open the possibility it was Russ, I have no one to blame, cause even the ants are gone.

  8. Oh no, you'll be cleaning that up for the rest of Mels life! Mine is coke...diet coke that is...the liquid stuff, not the other kind ;-) One day, a case of that fell out of my van, cans rolling all over a hotel parking lot (this was before the RV), spinning cans a'spewin' like rabid animails. One in particular heading towards a friends BRAND NEW Camper van!!! I didn't know whether to run or fess up. But it stopped short of actually spewing inside of her van - whew!

    1. Nasty is an understatement Jo. Tomorrow we will resume unstickying (new word to cover the situation) Mel.

  10. Oh, yeah..been there, done that. You'll be finding spray spots months from now. Amazing how pop can fire away from a simple fall. Great description, we had a good laugh this morning. We had Dawn dish detergent top come loose in the bumpy travels down the road and it went all over the counter, inbetween the stove top and all in the floor cracks where the counters meet the quarry tile floor. What a mess! We still don't do a great job of securing stuff inside the fridge before we travel. (it's a residential fridge and I always think everything will be ok inside it. WRONG!

    1. Life's lessons can be hard to learn, I still haven't got the change of altitude completely mastered. I know what happens when you change altitudes, I just haven't gotten smart enough to remember that when I open the Ketchup.
