At war

Clay and I are at war and we need to devote full attention to the battles at hand. This will require me setting yesterdays list aside for the time being while I devote full attention to the can to hand combat. With the recent rains and the fact that Clay and I are probably two of the sweetest people in the area (a personal opinion, not shared by many) we have come under siege by by a herd of miniature ants and they are relentless. They are not satisfied with one little mound, but do clusters, this one popped up overnight. I had just dowsed this area not five minutes before with Raid and they were already crawling all over the place.

I expect this is war that can't be won, but we will make life so uncomfortable for the little buggers that they will take their show to a new location. That being said I am now going to walk the perimeter and draw a line in the sand (with Raid), The war is on, bring it.

Outsmarting critters with really tiny brains is just another way to enjoy the good life.

  1. We had a white powder that we used around the foundation of the home we used to own. After the powder was laid outside then we only had to deal with the recon party inside. We always won!

  3. Get you some TERRO Ant Killer II Liquid Baits and you will win the war in about 48 hours.

    1. That's what I used to rely on when I lived in Missouri, but I haven't been able to find it everywhere.

  4. Oh boy, you do have some big battles ahead. Those little guys are relentless. Good luck with all the remedies, hope they work better for you than me!

    1. I am thinking of mixing alcohol and sand, hopefully they will get drunk and stone each other to death.

  5. A lot of beer that spills from your mouth will kill the critters. If not you just won't care about them after a couple of 12 packs......

  6. You're certain that you're not using "insect fertilizer" like Ant Gro or something? Maybe that's not really Raid in that can. You might try building a moat, and filling it with recycled beer. That could work to keep a lot of things at bay.

    1. So far it seems that they are one step ahead of Raid, but loose the battle, win the war. Ants beware.

  7. Is there an Ace or True Value Hardware around? They sell those liquid ant traps. But I think I saw them at Wally's too. That powerder stuff works and also another ground cover thing. Good Luck I'm sure you will win.

  8. Best thing I have ever found is Grant's Ant Stakes. They are bait containers on a short stake that you just push into the ground. It is the only thing I have had success with and I fight the ant wars on a regular basis. If that doesn't keep the ants at bay, you may as well cry uncle!

  9. I have the same little and HUGE ant hills around me here at Bluewater Lake, but thankfully they are across the street. Some of these ant hills are really HUGE.

Frustrating when their tiny brains outsmart us, isn't it? I think they just continue to work away, mindless of obstacles, no matter what. Think of how great this world would be if we all did the same?

    2. We can learn a lot about work ethic watching ants. I just prefer not to watch them in my pantry.
