Good book

Yesterday I had the book that Clay provided to me finished by 5pm. It was a quick read with lots of pictures and covered the road from its inception right up to current times. The highlight was the difficulties of making a railroad work in such remote country.

My kind of book.

Of course the reading of this book stirred memories of my days on the Wabash, Frisco and Pacific railroad in St. Louis. I was a member of this group for several years and used to spend at least one weekend per month 'working on the railroad' during the summer. Here is a video of the railroad in action.

Enjoy the ride and if you are ever in St. Louis on a Sunday the ride is much more fun in person.

Yesterday we had a bit of a front pass through and I was surprised to see the wind jump from about 10 mph to 32 mph all at once. We started rocking and rolling and I immediately pulled in the slides to prevent damage to the toppers. By the time I got the slides in the single burst was over and gone. We did get a quarter of an inch of rain though, which for here is significant.

Today the decks have been cleared and we are in position to devote full time to enjoying the good life.
