Russell Kansas

This evening we are in Russell, Kansas after a journey of 230 miles. We also made a stop at Oakley Kansas to visit the Blue Beacon Truck Wash so Mel could get a much needed bath. There was only one truck ahead of us, so we were back on the road in less than an  hour. Most of the way here we were fighting a quartering wind which is the toughest to deal with. The prevailing wind in this part of the country is east to west. The exception to this rule is whenever I try to go east to west. Today's wind, at 30 miles per hour I might add, was from the southeast blowing to the northwest. I feel certain this will continue for the next couple of days as I move to the east, rest assured normal patterns will return as I turn around and head back west.

The rest of the day will be spent unwinding and relaxing in preparation of tomorrows journey. Driving down the road no matter what the destination is always a way to enjoy the good life.

  1. We DO NOT like driving in the wind. Paul is white-knuckled after some of those drives. And yes, you need to unwind and relax from all the stress. Glad you had a safe trip though!

    1. Kansas is notorious for cross or quartering winds. I remember once driving an 18 wheeler back to the truck stop, after I had just unloaded. Looking in the mirror and seeing the tandem axle come off the ground. I went to the truck stop at 15 miles per hour and parked for the rest of the day.

  2. Kathy and I were heading East bound and came through South Dakota back in August 2008. The only one doing close to the speed was the state trooper. Truckers, RVers and Cars were all needing 12 foot lanes and nobody was even driving close to the limit and nobody trying to pass anyone else. It was a double Root Beer night.

Glad you still got to Enjoy the Good Life.

    It's about time.

  3. I know what you mean about the 18 wheeler I drove for 28 years. That's what gave me gray hair.

  6. I hate driving in the wind even in my car. But that Class C was as square as it could get. I hit some really bad winds drive to Williams, AZ I really wanted to sell the thing when I got there. But didn't know how to get home. :)
Hope the rest of your trip is better. Be safe.

What? Prevailing wind direction west to east perhaps?
