Severe weather

Last night at 8:45 PM a severe storm passed through the area the likes of which is being talked about all over the park. The unique thing about this storm was the hail. For a full 45 minutes there was a deafening hail that was golf ball size and larger. I have been in hail storms before, but usually of the 5 minute variety, never in my memory was I in one lasting 45 minutes. The result is that this morning everyone is showing some damage. I was relatively lucky, Mel lost the sky light over the shower and a couple of marker lights. Here is what we saw walking this morning.

Pieces of the skylight.

The skylight remains.

Marker light completely gone.

    1. That was the topic of conversation today, at least we could stand there and talk about it.

  2. Like Belinda said I'm glad it was all minor material damage compared to some we've seen already this year. You might need a temperary tarp over Mel until you can get that repaired.

Being Safe is a good way of Enjoying the Good Life.

    It's about time.

  4. Wow, sorry to hear of the damage you had. Seems those metal carport covers are not very sturdy. Hope your electric is back on now.

    1. Electric returned about 3 PM this afternoon. Glad I wasn't near any of the carports.

  5. I found your blog from Old Fat Man Adventures' link today.

I've never heard of a hail storm with such big hail, lasting so long. I'm glad your damage wasn't any worse. Must have been pretty scary when the storm was going on. Yes, I agree that the carports must not be very sturdy - at least they didn't blow off and hit something else.

I wonder how peoples' solar panels did in that size hail storm.

    1. There were some folks trapped in their park models when the awnings fell and blocked the door.

  6. What a mess but am glad no one was hurt. We get hail in Lakeside and they can be large but I don't think I have every seen the likes of yours. This year I am bringing that silver insulation stuff I bought on a large roll for the RV windows. I will use that on the car windshield for safety and to help keep the pine sap off.
Hope the storms are done there.

  7. Oh my goodness, that is unbelievable. So glad no one was hurt but that's a lot of damage. I, too, wonder what happened to solar panels.

    1. I don't think anyone in the park has solar panels, at least no reports.
