Secondly we have reached a milestone. Since January 1st we have tracked visits from foreign countries and yesterday we hit the 75 mark. Not quite half of the 195 countries in the world, but we're getting close.
Thirdly is an event that could have been a lot worse than it was. On the way to the bathroom yesterday I couldn't get the knob to turn and the door to open, After disassembling the knob a piece of pot metal fell out and it appears to have been a critical component because the knob no longer works. This will be a pretty simple fix, but might have been a major problem if I had been on the other side of the door trying to get out.
Now for some more of the Fort Selden.tour.
The stables. What surprises me is the fact that in dealing with the wide open spaces of the southwest most forts normal compliment of personnel the infantry outnumbered the cavalry 2 to 1.
The wagon is authentic, the paint job isn't.
A second corral for the draft animals.
Another old wagon.
This is the traditional adobe brick oven or horno. One of the things the ranger at this fort do is cooking demonstrations. One gentleman in particular has researched the early methods and is a wealth of information and was sure fun to talk with.
Some of the cooking equipment he has.
And more of what he has acquired. As you can imagine, most of it was foreign to me.
The rest of the day will be spent in Saturday mode until this evening when the gang is heading out to strap on the feed bag.
WOW John you mean to tell me I might not have won something? hmmm I swear I have just as bad luck not winning something as I do actualy winning.
ReplyDeleteAnd bathroom door knob is really bad it could scare the crap out of someone. (no pun intended of course).
As for the rest of the Fort it was great
Thanks for a fun post and educational as well.
