Busy, busy day.

This morning the team left Carrizozo, NM and before we stopped we ended up in Blamorhea, Texas. A total of almost 300 miles and during the drive we worked in 105 pictures taken. Heavy travel, heavy touring.

The first stop was Capitan, NM. What's significant about Capitan you ask? Well a wild fire in 1950 in Capitan Gap produced a badly singed black bear cub who became the symbol of the Forrest Service efforts at fire awareness. Smokey lived for 25 years at the Washington Zoo and upon his death he was returned to Capitan and is buried in Smokey Bear Memorial Park.

 Smokey's final resting place.

Next stop will be Lincoln, NM, the sight of the Lincoln County War. As for the rest of today, the question is what rest of today. One thing for certain I did cover some ground today while enjoying the good life.

  1. Thanks Michael, I hope the rain that has been following me all summer made the trip.

  2. So are you in your winter setting now?
I pull out in the morning. I really don't want to. Oh well to cold here.

  4. Did you know that one little girl that helped take care of Smokey the Bear as a cub was named Judy Bell (my name, too)? The kids at my alternative school always thought I was that bear girl! :)
