More heat

The high heat and humidity continues on with temperatures expected to be in the 90's again today and of course to 70% humidity stays around too. Yesterday after the rain I unhooked and went to the local grocery store. I noticed that they had corrected their pricing mistake from the other day when they had three 12 packs of Dr. Pepper on sale for $12.00 or two 24 packs on sale for $10.00. Let me see if I got this 36 cans of soda for $12.00 or 48 cans for $10.00. Apparently there is a calculator shortage here in town.

After the grocery store stop yesterday I took a look around up town and saw they were making preparations for a big event today. Marengo is a way point on the annual Ragbrai an annual 7 day bike trek across Iowa that is limited to just 10,000 daily riders. . So today there has been a constant stream of bicyclists passing by the campground heading east on their way to the next stop in Iowa City. I'm sure watching all this activity will wear me out, but it will be fun watching folks enjoying the good life.

  1. I know those bike runs usualy make money for good causes, but when they do them in Tucson it is a nightmare. Its a good day to stay off the roads. Sounds like you have a full view from you spot.

  2. It was a steady stream of bikes and support vehicles for about 6 hours, it takes a long time for 10,000 riders to pass by.

  3. Let me get this straight, 90 degrees, 70%, 10,000 bikes! Sounds like a real recipe for disaster. I hate to say it but I doubt that they are enjoying "the good life" but I'm sure you are by watching them go by while sitting inside some cool air conditioning.

  5. runnerduckreview,

The 10,000 riders are those that are 'officially' registered for the ride. There are usually a large number of 'other' riders that could not register that follow along on the route.

It is a week long party for riders and for the small towns of Iowa that they ride through and everyone 'is enjoying the good life'.

  6. Thanks for the additional information Ed. It did seem to be quite an event.
