One of the things I need to do is catch up on posting pictures now that I have the satellite back. Here are the ones from Saturday when I visited the former Farragut Naval Training Station in Athol Idaho..
This is the former brig which is the only building left of the 700+ buildings that made up the base in 1943. It has been turned into a museum to commemorate the Naval history of the area.
This is an original base fire truck preserved in like new condition.
This was the original harbormasters office. It is in the process of being restored.
Another World War II truck in pristine condition.
One of the rows of cells.
A display of barracks life.
This was in front of the building. A memory garden dedicated to the men who passed through here on the way to war.
A recent addition is this statue of a sailor framed by the prow of a ship.
One of the displays referenced the fact that the base also had a Navy Signalman school. An interactive display featured a flashing signal light of the same model I used on the Wahkiakum County. The last time I had my hands on one of these was back in 1964, but I couldn't resit the temptation to try my hand. I will just say my skills have diminished considerably.
The rest of today will apparently be spent holding onto my hat while trying to enjoy the good life.
