Rawlins, Wyoming

Todays travels took us from Kaycee Wyoming to Caspar where we stopped at Wal-Mart to change Mel's fluids and to stock the cupboards. After this was accomplished we drove along the Oregon/California/Mormon Trail on highway 220 next to the North Platte river following the path of the early pioneers. Half way to Rawlins we came across Independence Rock. This was the landmark that early pioneers attempted to reach by the 4th of July in order to be on schedule to cross into Oregon and California before snow closed the mountain passes. Many people recorded their names and dates of their passing this spot on the trail. The earliest recorded signature was in 1824. The pictures tell the story of the rock.
The rock in person.
And because it was there it needed to be climbed.
I deferred to the younger generation for this pleasure.

We have pretty much depleted the day so we are just going to sit back and enjoy the good life for the rest of the day.
