I just checked the thermometer and the wind chill is currently 92.3, frost bite won't be a factor around here today. Last night, as the sun was setting, I was watching the hummingbirds attack the feeders. They lay low during the day, too hot to fly, and we see them in the evening. I was able to get a couple of shots from the shadows. A little research shows that their wings flap at about 80 beats a second and their little hearts beat at about 1250 beats per minute. They can fly at over 25 to 30 mile per hour with bursts up to 60 mile per hour. They are the smallest animal with a backbone and the only bird that can hover and fly backwards. What an amazing little creature.

Sitting on a plant guarding his nectar supply. Sitting and watching hummingbirds is just another way to enjoy the good life.
