Boothill

The boothill cemetery was the town cemetery from 1878 until about 1884. The town has gone back and identified as many grave as they were able to and marked them accordingly. What I found interesting is that out of the more than 250 burials here there were very few natural deaths. The norm of the time seemed to be a violent death by hanging, gunshot, suicide, mine accident, indian attacks or wagon accident. These people lived in tough times and most died with their boots on, thus the name 'boothill'.

Welcome to Boothill

The historical marker.

The most famous residents of BootHill, Billy Clanton, Tom McLaury and his brother Frank McLaury who met their deaths at the OK Corral.

This is the father of the Clantons. His oldest sons were born in Callaway County, Missouri and he then moved to Adams County, Illinois for a short time before moving to Texas and then on to Arizona. He was killed on a cattle drive when they were ambushed by Mexicans.

Some of the many graves in the cemetery.

Some of the graves were marked with interesting tombstones.

The graves were arranged in neat rows.

Lester Moore was a Wells Fargo agent and had a dispute with a man over a package. Both died.

The mob thought 30 years for armed robbery wasn't enough.

The cemetery also had a Chinese section as the were many Chinese laborers in town.
