We have settled into the Lavaland RV park among the pines with a view of the surrounding mountains. It looks like this will be a nice quiet place to spend the next few days. I took a mile walk this morning to the New Mexico Visitors center and picked up plenty of planning materials for my next adventure. Here are a couple of shots from the front of Mel looking toward the north. Grants is between here and the mountains.
This pile of lava is in the park, thus the name, Lavaland RV Park. If you look on Google Maps you can see a large deposit of lava to the west of the RV Park. A couple of years ago this was a very active volcano area. (might have been more than a couple)
Today my project will be to study some of the information I picked up at the visitor center and formulate a plan of attack for enjoying the good life.
Yep, looks like a nice quite place to enjoy the good life.
ReplyDeleteAnother day of ruffing it in the wilds of an RV Park.
DeleteA couple of years ago this was an active volcano? Maybe you shouldn't settle in too much in case you have to beat a hasty retreat... :cO
ReplyDeleteMaybe a couple thousand or more.
DeleteNice views. Can't wait to see where you will be wandering while there.
ReplyDeleteProbably will just sit, doesn't seem to be a whole lot in Grants.
DeleteIf you like volcanoes, I hear Mount St. Helens is doing a little rumbling lately. Come on over the the Pacific Northwest for a first hand view, bring running shoes!!
ReplyDeleteI drove trough Spokane right after the big one and got to see the ash all over the place. I'll pass on that again.
