Last nights lunar eclipse coinciding with the winter solstice was an event not to be repeated until 2094 so I figured I'd better catch this one rather than wait for the next one. Conditions here were pretty good for the viewing with temperatures in the mid 60's, but there was a bit of moisture in the air which has turned into pea soup fog this morning. I also learned the joy of trying to hold a 40mm camera lens steady while looking straight up. Of course the tripod I ordered to help steady the camera on such long shots will arrive on Wednesday. I was able to get a few shots that were acceptable and the show was outstanding.
The dragon takes the first bite.
The shadow progresses.
Almost gone.
Another view.
All gone.
It really did turn red.
One last shot.
The rest of the day will be spent waiting for the fog to lift. To totally dissipate the fog a siesta might be required. I will have to say watching a late night eclipse in 60 degree weather is another way to enjoy the good life.
An astrophysicist said that watching a full moon eclipse was the most boring three hours they can spend. I guess staring into space and looking at a nebula that hasn’t changed in the last several hundred years is a lot more exciting, NOT! Nice pictures I'm really impress with Mr. Canon!
