Yesterday I had given up on Mr. Acer and contacted Amazon for a return. I returned the computer to factory settings and was ready to package it up to send back when I got an email from Amazon saying I needed to contact Acer to get an incident number before returning. So I began reloading the computer to get to the problem point before making the call to Acer. No point in calling with a working computer. As I was reloading the virus protection I went to a different site to download the AVG program and discovered I had been loading a 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit program. Let me tell you this was all it took. 64 bit data was being scanned by the virus program at a 32 bit rate and this was where the slowdown occurring. This is a classic ID-10-T (if you don't know what an ID-10-T error is just remove the dashes and should all come clear). Lesson learned 32 bit software and 64 bit machines don't mix.
Dennis and Tammy arrived last night and several of us are going visiting later today to catch up on what's been happening. It should be an afternoon of enjoying the good life.
