Yesterday's trip

Yesterday 7 of us headed to the valley to attempt to see the Citrus Fruit Festival parade. After a stop at Denny's for breakfast and a look see at Camping World, we arrived in Mission at 10 am we found that the parade wasn't scheduled until 4 pm. The prospect of hanging around that long didn't seem to appeal to anyone so we decided to head over to the Donna Flea Market. This happens to be one of the largest collections of junk for sale in all of south Texas. I would venture to say if you looked long enough you would find something that you just couldn't live without. Fortunately we didn't stay long enough for me to find that item and I was able to keep my billfold closed for the time we were there.

This is just one of the buildings, I believe there were 4 altogether, plus additional tents all around the buildings, very similar to a carnival midway. There didn't seem to be any attempt to organize the merchandise in any fashion. This building had fresh produce (seen on the left) to cleaning chemicals (center). They also had a nice selection of $5.00 swimsuits, (no guarantee they would hold up water), CD's, hats, leather goods, buttons and a snack bar.

After the flea market we headed for Joe's Crab House where we ate a late a lunch of some really good seafood.  I had a shrimp and fish platter and it was excellent. Then it was time for the trip back home. Arriving about 6 pm we were all tired from a day of enjoying the good life.

Today it is cooler (57 now) and Sunday activity is limited. I am going over to the rec hall later to listen to my friend Joe play his music in the weekly jam session. The rest of the day will be spent preparing Mel for our monthly trip to Laredo tomorrow.
