Elephant Butte

Yesterday when I left Gallup my plan was to drive as far as Grants and stop for the night. After getting groceries at Walmart in Grants and realizing it was only 11:00 am and I was less than 200 miles from Elephant Butte a decision had to be made. Knowing no one in Grants and having many friends in Elephant Butte was the deciding factor and I pressed on to EB.

Spoke to several friends last night while checking and more this morning so we are off to a good start for our stay here. I was also able to watch the climbing of the tower this morning, which is quite an event. We have a rather large communications tower in the park an this morning a crew arrived to service it. A coupe of pictures to show what I mean.

This shows the tower reaching toward the clouds. The next picture show the work area, right below thedish about 75% up the tower.

There are actually two guys in this picture, one is behind the conduit.

Today we will settle in a d get ready to spend some time with old friends enjoying the good life.

  1. Cedar Cove is just about the nicest campground I have ever stayed at. It definitely ranks in the top ten. Did you end up with a PaT tow dolly? Tell Clay hi for me. Give Skipper a pat on the head for me also.
