What's the deal

Checking the UPS tracking information yesterday afternoon  showed my package from Amazon had been dropped off at the office. The two items I ordered, The Tourist Trains Guidebook and the 7" sun shield for my GPS unit were waiting my attention. When I picked up the package it didn't feel like it had been packed well so I was apprehensive when I began to tear it open. That's when I found out I didn't have to tear anything. Amazon had failed to tape the ends of the box and instead just inserted the flaps into the box. This is when I discovered the 7" GPS sun screen didn't make the trip, at least the entire trip.

Box with the flaps open.

Amazon has a wonderful procedure in place for returning items, however if an item is missing you will spend a good deal of time searching through their site trying to fix the problem. I finally found a way to address the problem with customer service and received a reply to my email within two hours. I was issued a refund by their policy and when I went to reorder the item found it is no longer available. Any way, everything is resolved and it only took half a day to do it.

At least the book was in the package and from what I've read so far it's a very complete listing of tourist railroads, streetcars, museums, diner trains and depot museums. If you are interest in trains this seems to be a good reference book

Today I plan to do more reading, watch the game and enjoy the good life. Another tough day.

  1. Amazon isn't usually that careless. Glad they were very accommodating.

Enjoy the game and your book.

    1. I agree, their packaging usually leans to overkill. Once I figured out how to contact them they took care of everything like always.

  5. Wow, that's amazing, and disappointing. I've ordered lots of things from Amazon.com, and have always received the items boxed and packed very well, and usually they arrive before I expect them.

I'm glad the book made it, though, in good shape. It seemed like that was the important thing you ordered, and lots more fun than a GPS sunshield. Can you order one of those from your GPS manufacturer's website?

    1. The sun shade was an after thought. Rand McNally has them for $20.00, but the one from Amazon was $7.00 Not sure I want to pay $20.00.
