Thunderboomer

Yesterday we had light rain off and on until about sunset and then things got serious. We had a four or five hour period where the sky lit up and the thunder was almost continuous. We ended up with about a half an inch of rain, but the lightening tried to do us in. There is a rather large communications tower located about 50 yards from Mel's door.

This is half the tower behind Mel. I would have had to walk to the next county to get the entire tower in the picture. Anyway at one point last night we had a flash/bang incident when the tower got hit by lightning. I say flash/bang because the two things were simultaneous. My surge protector went to work and I sat in the dark for the mandatory 160 second reset period wondering whether the power would return or not. I was fortunate, but others in the park are still without power this morning. Also the towers red aircraft warning lights did not come back on so someone will get to climb the tower to repair that damage.

Today we are back to normal blue skies as you can see from the picture. Temperature is 65 degrees and winds a calm. Looks like a good day to wander aimlessly about. A fine day for enjoying the good life.

  1. That's some tower. Glad I don't have to climb up there to change a light bulb.
I hope you enjoyed the nice day I gave you back.
