New location, Fruita, Colorado

We left Glenwood Springs and ambled west on Interstate 70 following the course of the Colorado River, with a stop in Rifle at the local Wal-mart for a little restocking of the pantry. Then Mel took us on down the road until we reached Fruita where we found a nice park with a view of the Mesa and within walking distance to the Colorado River. We decided this is a town that needs exploring so we signed up for a weeks stay. Mel needed a rest after working so hard to get through the mountains and this looks like a good place to do it.
 The view from Mel.
We are nice and close to the office and store.

Coming through the mountains I was struck with one sight that was a bit disturbing. When I lived in Denver in the 70's  the mountains to the west of town were pristine in their natural state and beautiful to drive through. Now they are dotted with development. Houses are stuck all over the hills and to me it was unsettling. As John Denver said in Rocky Mountain High, "more scars upon the land". The developers are busy paving paradise. This was true of all the other little towns I passed along the way., Georgetown, Dillon, Vail and the rest have all ceded to 'progress'.

This afternoon we will do a little research on the area and make plans to enjoy the good life.

  1. All that development is why Dave & I left Colorado. They are ruining a beautiful place.
