We have the start of another fine day here in Zapata. Today's excitement was the man trimming the palm trees in the park. He climbs the trees with spikes on his boots and removes the fronds with a case knife. The problem, as I see it, with this job is the fact the hornets like to live in these trees. He came down and had about 20 welts where they had gotten him. He was also telling that he occasionally finds rattlesnake skins in the tree, but so far has not encountered a snake in the tree. He did let us know if he ever does meet up with a snake he won't need the spikes coming down. He gets $100.00 per tree and can do 4 or 5 a day.
