Old Bent's Fort

Bent's Fort, originally named Fort William, was built in 1846 as a trading post for the Bent, St. Vrain Trading Company. The Bent brothers were from St, Louis, Mo. and came to the frontier as teenagers to establish a trading company doing business with the Indians and the Mexicans of the area. The fort today is a recreation of the original fort and was reconstructed using original drawings and measurements. Here are some of the pictures of the fort with more to follow.

This sign was built by the DAR when all that was here were the ruins of the original fort.

The fort from a distance. In the foreground, surrounded by the low rock wall, is the fort's cemetery. 15 to 20 unmarked graves are believed located here, but it has never been excavated.
